In 2007, Helsingin Kauppaoppilaitos Oy and the Foundation of Finnish Business College joined an initiative launched by the Finnish Ministry of Education in 2006 for compiling a network of vocational institutions, and decided to merge their ancillary colleges, the Helsinki Business College (HBC) and the Finnish Business College (FBC) - the EDP Institute to form a single vocational college. The letter of intent for the merger was signed on 5th September 2007.
The memorandum of association was signed on 3rd December 2007.
In 2008, preparations for the merger continued. Antti Loukola was elected to be the Managing Director of the limited company runnig the college and the Principal of the new college.
In 2009, SLK Instituutti was chosen as the name of the new adult education unit.
The new college stars functioning on 1st August 2009 and the name is Helsinki Business College (Suomen Liikemiesten Kauppaopisto in Finnish).
