The Foundation of Finnish Business College has celebrated its 60th anniversary in late 2009. The foundation ran what was known as the Finnish Business College, until 31 July 2009. The college itself is much older; Suomen Liikemiesten Kauppaopisto was first established in 1898. Before the foundation, the college was administered by a limited company, Suomen Liikemiesten Kauppaopiston Osakeyhtiö.
The focus of the Foundation's activities changed when the foundation and Helsingin kauppaoppilaitos Oy decided to merge the educational establishments maintained by them into a new college and establish Helsinki Business College Oy to run it. From 1st August 2009, the mission of the Foundation of Finnish Business College is to support the development of the college maintained by Helsinki Business College Oy, to give out grants and scholarships, to increase interaction between the business world and the field of education in business and information technology, and to participate in developing education in these fields. To fulfil this mission, the foundation provides and manages teaching facilities, and maintains and extends its collections of office equipment and art collections.
According to its charter, the foundation has a board with one member nominated from each of the following trade organisations:
- The Foundation of EDP Institute
- Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK)
- Finpro
- K-Retailers' Association
- Central Chamber of Commerce of Finland
- Federation of Finnish Commerce
- Finnish Businessmen's Association
- SOK
- Federation of Finnish Enterprises
- City of Vantaa
In addition there can be a maximum of four honorary board members appointed by the board.
